Program Requirements & Details

• MVEC installs an energy management switch (free of charge). The water heater is controlled only during peak electricity usage times through this switch.
• Once MVEC receives the sign up form below we will contact you to set up an appointment to install the energy management switch. This procedure takes about 1½ hours – MVEC will need access to the water heater in your home.
• Members must use a 200 kWh minimum each month to qualify and must participate for a minimum of one year.
• Participation in this program carries forward every year.
• Members who are renters need the home owner’s written permission to join.

Program Requirements & Details

• An energy management switch is installed by an electrician (at your expense), and your electric water heater will be cycled only when there are peak electricity usage times.
• Electric water heaters are separately metered from the rest of the household usage.
• 50-gallon water heaters do not qualify for this program.

• Limited lifetime warranty on tank against leaks (non-transferable)
• 6 year warranty on parts (elements, thermostats, valves, etc.)
• Full labor coverage for warrantable repairs/replacements for 1 year from date of purchase.
• It is very important the installation follows all instructions provided in the product manual.
• Failure to follow any and all instructions provided by the manufacturer correctly may result in a void warranty.
• It is your responsibility to ensure your chosen installer is aware of all installation requirements for the water heater.
• If you need a replacement copy of the instructions, please contact MVEC’s Energy Services Department to have one provided to you via email.

Heat Pump Water Heaters

Heat pump water heaters (HPWH) offer more flexibility than standard electric water heaters, providing you with reliable hot water while reducing energy consumption by up to 60% and saving you money in the process.

A HPWH uses less than half the amount of energy to heat the same amount of water by transferring heat instead of creating it. Fans pull warm air in, where it is transferred to water in the storage tank and heated up. Cool air is ducted out while hot water is now ready to use.

While this product does not currently qualify for Energy Wise programs, we do offer rebates for heat pump water heaters via our online portal. MVEC does not sell heat pump water heaters. If interested, reach out to your trusted local contractor. Upon purchasing a unit and completing installation, rebates can then be submitted to MVEC. Additionally, other state and/or federal rebates may be available upon purchase.
