Below is a sample commercial electric bill with detailed explanations.
SIDE ONE
1. MVEC Information – Provides office hours, business and dispatch/outage phone numbers, and other contact information for MVEC.
2. Total Amount Due and Due Date – Summarizes total amount or budget amount due and due date for the service address listed. Bank draft and recurring credit card would be indicated, if you participate in those programs. Also shows the payment due, if paid after the due date.
3. Your Account Information – Your account number, contact information, service address, usage period and statement date for this month’s bill. If your contact information has changed or you have a new phone number or email address, please update information here.
4. Daily Energy Use Graph – Includes your main meter (blue bar) and, if applicable, your Energy Wise meter (green bar). Black line represents average temperature for that day.
5. Monthly Energy Use Comparisons – Compares this month’s energy use with the previous month and also the same month from the previous year.
6. Power Factor Charge – MVEC, has to supply much more current to the motor than is theoretically required, due to the “Reactive Power” (kVar) required to create the magnetic fields within the coiled wire inside the motor. This will result in a low Power Factor which can result in additional charges on your electric bill. Please contact MVEC for assistance with your Power Factor questions.
7. Payment Stub – If you are mailing your payment, detach this section of your electric bill and return it with your check. If you participate in Automatic Bill Pay, the “Draft Date” is noted on the payment stub and the “DO NOT MAIL PAYMENT” message also appears.
SIDE TWO
1. Metering Details – Your meter number(s), meter type, service dates, days in billing cycle and meter readings.
2. Cost to Generate – This is the cost of wholesale power that MVEC purchased from generation facilities to power your home in the past month. This includes the Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment (WPCA). The WPCA is charged to your Main Meter. Electricity used on the Energy Wise meter does not get charged a WPCA.
3. Cost to Deliver – This represents MVEC’s local costs to get electricity to your home, such as poles, wires, substations, manpower and other operating expenses. This includes the Basic Monthly Service Charge, which recovers a portion of the static cost to maintain the electrical service at your location. This charge is included on all member bills – regardless of how much or how little energy is used each month. Charges will appear separately for the Main Meter and the Energy Wise Meter.
4. Account Details – Summarizes other applicable billing information including Operation Round Up, security lights, late payment charges, deposit fees (residential deposit policy or business deposit policy) and other optional and miscellaneous charges and credits.
5. Current Charges – A color-coded breakdown of your wholesale power cost, MVEC delivery costs and account detail items.
6. Billing Definitions – Explanations of various line items on your electric bill.
7. Important Messages – Read important messages about products, services, promotional offers, notices and events.
8. Free Payment Options – Instead of mailing your payment, you can save a stamp by choosing an alternative, FREE way to pay your bill online, by phone or through MVEC’s mobile app, SmartHub. Also includes MVEC’s office address.
